‘An Instant Classic’ in the world of Baseball

Anyone that knows anything about Matt knows that he absolutely LOVES the St. Louis Cardinals.  On probably 75% of the days in the year, Matt sports one of his many Cardinals hats.  And that might even be low balling it.  I am really taking into account Sundays— he never wears a hat on Sunday.  If we didn’t include Sundays, he probably wears a Cardinals hat 90% of the days in the year.  I am so not even joking either.  I tell you this to try to help you understand how much my husband LOVES his Cardinals.  I am his first love, but his Cardinals are a close second.   

He loves them so much, that he doesn’t even have another all-time favorite sports team in any of the other sports.  Okay, he likes BYU a lot, but really, he doesn’t have a favorite professional basketball or football team because in some way, that would take away some of his love for the Cards.  The Cards are it for him, I tell you!

With that background, last night was a very tense, nerve-racking, exciting night at our home.  Our afternoon began having an early dinner so that we were ready to watch the game once 6:00 rolled around.  We then parked ourselves on our couch, with our nice, new, huge, comfy blanket (thanks Mal!), and stayed there for the next four hours and thirty three minutes.  Okay, Matt stayed there for the next four hours and thirty three minutes.  In the midst of all that I made us some delicious hot chocolate, folded the laundry, and made some muffins for breakfast.  But- I was MOSTLY there. J

Both the Rangers and the Cards made some silly errors early on in the game, but they were neck and neck until the Rangers pulled ahead in the later part of the game.  At this point, Matt switched to the channel to football because he literally was way too nervous to watch.  (He is so funny when he is nervous!)   With the Rangers up by 2 in the bottom of the 9^th, we were trying to keep our hope alive for the Cards, but it wasn’t looking good.  Twice the Rangers had the Cards at their final out and final strike at that, but were not able to close it for a win.   

In both of these nail biting instances; David Freese came through with hits that gave the Cards new life.

All Matt could say was, “David Freese for President!”

World Series 2011 Game 6 was truly a classic. 

The pressure is back on tonight.  For my husband’s happiness, I truly hope the Cards can bring on the fire tonight!!
